A delegation from the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), headed by Secretary-General Haitham Rahma, visited the office of the Association of Independent Syrian Kurds in Afrin. He was briefed on the work of the Association and its important role in strengthening the social fabric, solving problems in the region, and raising awareness about the sabotage activities being carried out by terrorist organizations.
The SOC’s delegation comprised members of the political committee Badr Jamous, Bahjat al-Atassi, Muhammad Qaddah, member of the General Assembly Najib Rahmoun, and Coordinator of the SOC’s office in rural Aleppo Ahmed al-Shehadi.
Director of the Office of the Association Azad Othman gave an overview on the work of the Association and the issues it is working to address in Afrin and its villages. He also spoke about the economic and living conditions in northwestern Syria in general.
Othman stressed that the region is witnessing clear progress in the areas of security and economy. He cited the process of restoring rights to their rightful owners, which encouraged the return of a large number of displaced persons to their homes and contributed to refuting the lies of the terrorist militias.
Participants discussed the latest developments in the political process and the Constitutional Committee, as well as the results of the tour made by the SOC and the Syrian Negotiations Commission to the United States and their meeting with Western officials and diplomats.
Othman suggested that the SOC open an office in Afrin to follow up on the major issues alongside the Association and work to address them as soon as possible. Rahma welcomed the proposal as he promised that it would be discussed at the upcoming meeting of the SOC’s political committee.
