The Syrian Opposition Coalition’s (SOC) Office of Syndicates and Unions presented its work report to the General Assembly at its 59th regular session.
Coordinator of the Office, Abdul Majeed Barakat, gave an overview on the main activities during the past two months. The office participated in preparations for the holding the first scientific conference in the liberated areas in cooperation with the Fikr Center for Studies in the town of Azaz in rural Aleppo.
Barakat also spoke about the Syrian Alliance of Volunteer Teams and Community Initiatives, which is a coordinating body to improve cooperation between volunteer teams and NGOs. It aims to unify and support the intellectual, media and work efforts of volunteer teams, community initiatives and NGOs to a high degree of efficiency in partnership with friendly countries and international organizations so as to achieve community recovery and peace building.
Barakat also gave an overview on the Syndicate of Certified Accountants in the liberated areas, which submitted a request for accreditation to the SOC. He pointed out that the Office is studying its bylaws, and developing a proposal for a mechanism for accrediting professional syndicates by the SOC. The proposal will be presented to the SOC’s political committee as soon as it is finalized.
