SOC’s Political Committee Discusses Latest Preparations for Extensive Popular Conference in Northern Syria

December 31, 2021
in Coalition News

The Syrian Opposition Coalition’s (SOC) political committee held a regular meeting to discuss the lates field and political developments in Syria under the chairmanship of President Salem Al-Meslet.

Al-Meslet gave an overview on the meetings he held last week and the recent preparations for the launch of an extensive popular conference in the freed territories. The conference will bring together a wide spectrum of revolutionary and civic components and bodies.

Al-Meslet stressed the need to support and activate the work of the SOC’s committees and departments within the framework of the reforms that the SOC is putting in place, especially the Membership Committee and the Al-Jazeera and Euphrates Committee. He pointed to the need to step up efforts to improve services and security in the towns of Ras al-Ayn and Tal Abyad.

Al-Meslet also stressed the importance of further strengthening of relations with Arab states as he instructed the Department of Foreign Relations to communicate with the new Kuwaiti government which was formed several days ago. He congratulated the State of Kuwait, wishing the brotherly Kuwaiti people further prosperity and stability.

Vice President Abdel Hakim Bashar spoke about the meetings that were held with activists in the Syrian refugee camps, as well as the meetings with Kurdish journalists and writers in the Iraqi Kurdistan Region about the political solution and intra-Kurdish dialogue.

Bashar stressed that there is no point in dialogue with the PYD if it does not openly dissociate itself from the PKK, withdraw from the east of the Euphrates region, and announce a clear political program in which it affirms its support for the Syrian people and their revolution.

Bashar ruled out the possibility of reaching an agreement with the PYD in the current conditions as the group is still showing downright hostility towards the Syrian people and neighboring countries, which poses a serious danger to the Syrian people, especially the Kurds. He stressed that it is not in the interest of the Syrian Kurds to be part of this equation, and to stand against the rest of the Syrian people.

Moreover, Bashar indicated that the SOC is closely following the violations that the PYD militia is committing in the areas under its control, namely the kidnapping and recruitment of child soldiers.

Coordinator of the SOC’s Strategic Consulting Office, Ahmed Ramadan, gave an overview on the recent field and political developments, especially the US-Russian understandings in Syria. He also talked about the Assad regime’s involvement in drug trafficking and the Interpol’s recent decision to readmit the Assad regime. He put forth a set of recommendations and proposals in this regard.

Munther Serras and Abdul-Basit Abdul-Latif submitted reports on the security situation in the liberated areas, the situation on the frontlines, and the combat readiness of the Syrian National Army.

Coordinator of the SOC’s Office of Studies and Documents, Riyad Al-Hassan, presented a study on the latest statements by the Russian envoy to Syria, Alexander Lavrentiev. He stressed that these remarks carried many messages that confirm Moscow’s insistence on preventing progress in the political and constitutional processes.

Preserving independence and national sovereignty and maintaining the Syrian people's unity within the same Syrian soil is one of the critical pillars of the Syrian Coalition. The Coalition aims to overthrow the Assad regime along with all its symbols and pillars. It also aims to dismantle its security apparatus and hold accountable those involved in crimes against Syrians. In addition, it seeks to achieve a transition to a pluralistic, democratic and civil Syria.
