SOC’s Political Committee Holds Regular Meeting to Discusses Latest Syria Developments

The Syrian Opposition Coalition’s (SOC) political committee held its periodic meeting to discuss the latest field developments and political developments in Syria. In attendance was also SOC’s President Salem Al-Meslet.

Al-Meslet gave an overview on the work of the Presidency over the last week. He talked about the telephone conversation he made with the family of the youngster Nayef Al-Nayef, who died in a heinous crime in Istanbul. Al-Meslet offered his condolences to Nayef’s family and relatives as he stressed that the SOC is closely following the case through the Joint Syrian-Turkish Committee.

Al-Meslet also talked about the outcomes of the important conversation he had with the British envoy to Syria Jonathan Hargreaves, which focused on rejecting normalization with the Assad regime, protecting the rights of Syrian refugees and preventing any attempt to forcibly return them to the Assad regime.

Al-Meslet stressed the need to continue strengthening relations with sisterly and friendly states and the Arab League, pointing out that visits to those countries are currently being arranged in the coming period.

Vice-president Abdul Hakim Bashar spoke about the meeting of the Kurdish National Council with the US State Department, pointing out that the meeting focused on the violations committed by the PYD militia in northeastern Syria. He also stressed that the attempts of the actors operating in the areas of the PYD militia to remove the name of the PKK terrorist group from the lists of terrorism are evidence that this organization is running that region.

Vice-president Ruba Habboush talked about the results of the meetings she held with activists and representatives of civil society organizations in Izmir, including the “White Hands” Association. The meetings focused on helping IDPs in northern Syria, especially those living in informal camps amid lack the basic life requirements.

Habboush also about the workshop that was held in the city of Azaz in the countryside of Aleppo and the Turkish city of Gaziantep, which was organized by the Syrian Women’s Commission, and was attended by about 55 women.

Participants reviewed the field and military situation, and the Assad regime’s continued bombing operations on civilian areas, and discussed the latest three simultaneous bombings in Al-Bab, Azaz and Afrin.

Participants presented a number of recommendations and proposals related to local, regional and international affairs, especially monitoring the medical situation in the liberated areas and the suspension of aid for medical facilities that serve nearly one and a half million citizens.
