The Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) received two letters from the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Director General of the Qatar Fund for Development, Khalifa bin Jassim al-Kuwari, in response to letters sent by SOC’s President, Salem al-Meslet, regarding winter needs of the IDPs in northern Syrian.
Al-Meslet thanked the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Qatar Fund for Development for their continued support for the Syrian people. He commended the principled positions of the sisterly State of Qatar which supports the Syrian people in their revolution and their just demands for freedom and dignity.
The SOC received a letter from the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicating that the Qatar Red Crescent Society has spared no effort to respond to the humanitarian needs in coordination with the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement and the relevant UN organizations.
Regarding the current winter needs, the Qatari Foreign Ministry indicated that the Qatar Red Crescent has allocated funds for the current winter projects in Syria and neighboring countries.
For his part, Al-Kuwari pointed out that the needs attached in the letters that was sent by the SOC’s President earlier are in line with the priorities set by the Qatar Fund for Development.
Al-Kuwari pointed out that the Qatar Fund for Development monitors the suffering of the Syrian civilians in the IDPs camps, especially in winter when this suffering worsens due to the freezing temperatures and snowfall and the Covid-19 outbreak.
He added that the Qatar Fund for Development, in cooperation with Qatari charities and UN organizations, is contributing to reducing the dangers of the winter season in the IDPs camps and in the host countries. He cited the rehabilitation of roads in the IDPs camps and the distribution of heating materials, winter clothes, woolen blankets, and other basic winter needs.
