President of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Salem al-Meslet, stressed that the Assad regime became involved in the Russian aggression against Ukraine after it begun recruiting mercenaries to send them to Ukraine in order to fight alongside the Russian regime forces.
Al-Meslet pointed out that the Syrian people categorically reject the Russian aggression on Ukraine and denounce the heinous crimes taking place against the Ukrainian people. He added that Bashar al-Assad is carrying out Putin’s orders to stay in power.
Moreover, Al-Meslet stressed that denying forces of the Syrian Revolution access to advanced weapons encouraged Putin and Assad to send mercenaries from Syria to fight in Ukraine.
He called on the international community and friends of the Syrian people to rectify this mistake by empowering the Syrian National Army to defend civilians against the Assad regime which hijacked the Syrian people’s will and gave the Russian occupiers a free hand in Syria. He said: “Only then will these two criminals be deterred in Syria.”
