Secretary-General of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Haitham Rahma, stressed that no Syrian living in the liberated areas would participate in Russia’s war against Ukraine, adding that the Syrian people would not accept to be involved in the heinous crimes that the Russian forces are committing against the Ukrainian people.
Rahma reiterated the Syrian people’s support for the Ukrainian people in their heroic resistance to the Russian aggression. He made it clear that for the past eleven years, the Syrian people have been fighting to liberate their country from the Russian and Iranian occupations and to overthrow the Assad regime, which has become a puppet in the hands of Putin and Khamenei.
Rahma cited the statements of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that “the Russian enemy has committed in Syria what it is now committing in Mariupol and other Ukrainian cities.” He added that Russia is now doing in Ukraine what it has been doing in Syria for the past seven years, targeting public markets, residential areas, hospitals, and bakeries, killing tens of thousands of innocent people, and displacing millions of Syrians.
Rahma pointed out that the Russian regime is the common enemy of the Syrian and Ukrainian people as it has destroyed the economies of the two countries, undermined security and stability in both countries, and shattered every hope of living in peace, freedom and democracy.
