Syrian Negotiations Commission’s President Briefs Political Committee on his European Tour

President of the Syrian Negotiations Commission, Bader Jamous, gave a briefing to the Syrian Opposition Coalition’s (SOC) political committee the about the meetings he held during his recent European tour. Jamous visited many capitals and met European officials in order to revitalize the political process and ensure the implementation of UN resolution 2254.

Jamous spoke about the meeting he held with the French Foreign Ministry, in which many issues were raised. He called for continuing the support for the Syrian Revolution and opposition forces as he stressed the need for greater pressure to implement the Geneva Communique of 2012 and UN Resolution 2254.

Jamous pointed out that the meeting with officials of the German Foreign Ministry was important, as they discussed the implementation of UN resolutions on Syria, especially the Geneva Communique of 2012 and UN Resolutions 2118 and 2254. He also said that the Commission called for the reactivation of the work of the core group on Syria.

Jamous also gave an overview on the meeting with the British Foreign Ministry, in which he called for holding a hearing for the Commission at the British Parliament. He also called for the reactivation of the British-Syrian Friendship Committee at the British Parliament. He said that the British officials expressed their interest in supporting education in Syria, while stressing the need for the renewal of the UN mandate for the cross-border delivery of humanitarian aid.

Jamous also talked about the workshop that the Commission held in Geneva on the cross-border delivery of humanitarian aid. The workshop was sponsored by seven countries, and aims to shed light on the increasing size of humanitarian aid. He made it clear that this increase will not stop unless a comprehensive political solution that achieves stability and sustainable peace is reached. He also called for distancing the issue of UN aid from political blackmail at the Security Council, while stressing that the solution in Syria is a political solution, given that the only way out of the ongoing human tragedy is the full implementation of UN resolution 2254.

Jamous also gave an overview on his meeting with UN envoy Geir Pedersen, who is working to resume the work of the Constitutional Committee, in addition to his meetings with representatives of several states in Geneva.

Preserving independence and national sovereignty and maintaining the Syrian people's unity within the same Syrian soil is one of the critical pillars of the Syrian Coalition. The Coalition aims to overthrow the Assad regime along with all its symbols and pillars. It also aims to dismantle its security apparatus and hold accountable those involved in crimes against Syrians. In addition, it seeks to achieve a transition to a pluralistic, democratic and civil Syria.
