The Coordinator of the Office of Social Studies and Documents in the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Firas Masri, presented a comprehensive work report during the 67th regular session of the General Assembly held on Friday.
In the report, Masri provided an overview of the activities and initiatives carried out by the office over the past two months. He highlighted the periodic reports presented in the political committee meetings, including a participatory engineering charter for the safety of facilities and infrastructure.
Moreover, Masri presented reports on the latest developments in Arab and Turkish positions, along with updates on the work of the UN envoy to Syria, the Seventh Brussels Conference, and early recovery efforts.
The report also shed light on the office’s visits and field activities in the liberated areas, with particular focus on al-Rai, al-Bab, Afrin, and Azaz. Meetings were held with the director of the Disaster Commission in the Syrian Interim Government, the Universities of Aleppo and Shaam, and local councils.
During the session, the office presented vital recommendations, emphasizing the importance of intensifying dialogue with the Turkish government concerning the political process. Additionally, the report called for attention to the human rights file, particularly addressing the Assad regime’s international criminalization for its use of chemical weapons and perpetration of massacres.
Furthermore, Masri stressed the need to expand dialogue between the forces of the revolution and the opposition, while exerting pressure on the UN envoy to implement UN Resolution 2254. The report called for international pressure to address the critical issues of detainees and the forcibly disappeared, urging reconsideration of the neutral role of the United Nations and its institutions.
