Abdulbasit Abdullatif, the Coordinator of the Jazira and Euphrates Committee in the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), delivered a comprehensive report to the political committee. The report detailed the committee’s meeting on Saturday, which centered on crucial issues pertaining to the security and social landscape in the Jazira and Euphrates region of Syria.
The meeting saw the attendance of SOC’s Vice-President, Abdulahad Astepho, Secretary of the political committee, Abd al-Majid Barakat, and committee members Zuhair Muhammad, Radeef Mustafa, Ahmed al-Jarba, Muhammad Hamdo, Mustafa al-Hamidah, Hussein al-Raad, Muhammad al-Mikhlif and Mahmoud Farhan.
During the meeting, the attendees extensively discussed the ongoing crimes committed by PYD militias in the region. They expressed grave concern over the PYD militia’s practices, such as recruiting child soldiers, carrying out arbitrary arrests, and suppressing residents’ rights to express their opinions and aspirations. Moreover, the rampant corruption within the militia’s apparatuses was also a focal point of concern.
The discussions also delved into the challenges faced by farmers during the grain season and the water crisis in the Ras al-Ayn region. Emphasizing the significance of aiding farmers in marketing their grain crops, the attendees highlighted the necessity of collaborating with the Grain Foundation of the Syrian Interim Government to find viable solutions.
The report underlined the importance of documenting the crimes and violations perpetrated by the PYD militia in cooperation with local authorities. The aim is to bring these heinous acts to the attention of international bodies, such as the United Nations and the UN International, Impartial, and Independent Mechanism, to hold the perpetrators accountable for their actions in Syria.
