Hariri Discusses Developments in Southern Syria with Jordan’s FM

Head of the Syrian Negotiations Commission Nasr Hariri met with Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and discussed with him the latest developments on the ground in Syria, especially the crimes being committed by the Assad regime in southern Syria.

In comments published on Twitter on Sunday, Hariri said that the meeting discussed the latest developments on the ground in Syria’s south.

For his part, Safadi stressed the importance of preserving the ‘de-escalation zones’ agreement in southern Syria and protecting the lives of civilians as well as commitment to a comprehensive political solution in accordance with UN Security Council resolution 2254 and the UN-led Geneva process.

Southern Syrian is bracing for possible military escalation as Assad forces and Iranian terrorist militias have been sending huge reinforcements to the region. In videos published on social media, Free Syrian Army commanders in Dara’a expressed their complete rejection of the entry of the Assad regime forces to their areas, stressing they are ready to defend the region.

“We count on the people of Dara’a who will restore the glory of the revolution to occupied Damascus, Suweidaa, Aleppo and eastern Ghouta,” the FSA commanders said. They called for the departure of the Iranian militias and the Russian forces from all Syrian territory, describing these as occupation forces.

Other Free Syrian Army groups and political bodies in Dara’a announced they would resist any possible attack by the Assad regime following meeting held at the headquarters of the Supreme Judicial Council in Houran in the village of Gharz on Sunday.

In an interview with Smart News Network, commander of the FSA’s Southern Alliance, Qasim Najm, rejected any “international tutelage on the area that does not corresponds with the principles of the revolution.” Head of Houran Revolutionary Council, Mohammad al-Zoabi said that participants in the meeting decided to resist the Assad regime in the south. He stressed that “any agreement that does not meet the goals of the revolution will be rejected whatever its form or content.”

On Friday, mass demonstrations were held in Dara’a rejecting any agreement that might lead to the re-entry of the Assad regime forces to their areas, stressing their determination to confront these forces. (Source: Syrian Coalition’s Media Departmen)

Preserving independence and national sovereignty and maintaining the Syrian people's unity within the same Syrian soil is one of the critical pillars of the Syrian Coalition. The Coalition aims to overthrow the Assad regime along with all its symbols and pillars. It also aims to dismantle its security apparatus and hold accountable those involved in crimes against Syrians. In addition, it seeks to achieve a transition to a pluralistic, democratic and civil Syria.
