Coordinator of the Displaced People and Refugees Working Group in the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Ahmed Baccora, has highlighted the dire living conditions faced by residents of the Al-Rukban refugee camp. This situation arises from the Assad regime forces reimposing a siege on the camp, preventing both entry to and exit from it. Baccora emphasized that the international community’s failure to fulfill its responsibilities has reached an incomprehensible stage.
In a press statement, Baccora underscored that the Assad regime has perpetrated crimes against the Syrian people for over 13 years, utilizing various weapons, including chemical ones, as well as tactics like arrest, torture, forced disappearance, mass displacement, and starvation. He expressed surprise at the international community’s response to these crimes, which has been limited to mere denunciation and condemnation, gradually fading away until silence became the norm.
Baccora emphasized that there is no justification for the current international inaction, even at the political level. He called on the United Nations and international organizations to fulfill their responsibilities and work towards alleviating the suffering of the victims.
Tariq Abbas, Chargé d’Affaires of the SOC’s Office in Jordan, urged the international community to exert pressure on the Assad regime and its Russian supporters to open roads to the besieged people in the Rukban camp. He also called for the entry of medical and food supplies for over seven thousand besieged individuals. Additionally, Abbas urged relevant international organizations to fulfill their roles by providing humanitarian aid in any feasible manner.
