Mohammed Saeed Suleiman was elected as the new head of the Afrin Executive Council in a meeting that was attended by President of the Syrian Coalition Abdurrahman Mustafa as well as members of the local council in Afrin and local councils in the region. Suleiman succeeded former head of the Council Zuhair Haidar who resigned from his post.
President Mustafa thanked the former head of the Council and all members of the Executive Council for the work they did. He said: “We have noticed the change that occurred in Afrin in the past six months.” He also thanked Turkey for its role in supporting the local councils and the liberation of the region from the terrorist militias of the Democratic Union Party (PYD).
President Mustafa also praised the consensus among members of the council during the selection of the new head as providing an appropriate environment to work more effectively. He underscored the need to provide essential services to the people of the region, especially after it became safe thanks to the efforts of the FSA groups and the support that was provided by the brothers in Turkey.
Moreover, President Mustafa expressed hope that the new council will complete the achievement of the same goals, most importantly the restoration of security and stability to the region and the return of refugees, in addition to the reactivation of civil institutions to provide the best service to civilians.
President Mustafa pointed out that forces of the revolution and the opposition are facing “real threats”, calling for unity to achieve peace in the region; meet the needs of civilians and the forcibly displaced persons; and develop Afrin and its countryside.
