The Syrian Coalition stressed the importance of the Idlib Agreement and the need to preserve as well as to prevent the Assad regime and the Iranian militia from violating it. It said that Russia bears primary responsibility for the repeated shelling on the areas covered by the agreement.
In a press release issued on Friday, the Coalition condemned the criminal shelling of rural Idlib as a blatant violation of the UN Security Council resolutions, the international law and the Geneva Convention which prevents the targeting of civilians. The Coalition underscored that these attacks are a serious breach of the Idlib agreement as the town of Jarjanaz is located inside the buffer zone.
The Assad regime’s militia targeted the town of Jarjanza in rural Idlib with heavy artillery on Friday afternoon, killing 10 civilians, including children and wounding many others.
Local activists said that the Assad regime forces fired a barrage of artillery shells at the town and the surrounding towns during Friday prayers, causing extensive material damage.
The Coalition called on the Russian side to shoulder its responsibility with regards to this crime and the repeated violations of the agreement through the constant artillery shelling carried out by the regime forces and the Iranian militias on rural Idlib and rural Hama.
The Coalition emphasized its continued efforts to turn this agreement into an opportunity to revive the political process leading to a comprehensive political transition. It noted that Iran is seeking to undermine this process. (Source: Syrian Coalition’s Media Department)
