Secretary-General of the Syrian National Olympic Committee, Ahmed Al-Ali, and Head of the Team Games Shakir Hamidi, met with the Coordinator in the Turkish Ministry of Youth and Sports, Mehmet Sadik Yildirim in the Turkish capital of Ankara.
The meeting was held in coordination with the Syrian National Coalition. The two sides discussed the possibility of coordination with regard to Syrian sports in general and sports activities in the liberated areas in particular. They agreed to cooperate to develop the Syrian sports and support the talented athletes from all ages.
Member of the Coalition’s political committee and Director of the Coalition’s Office of Sports Unions, Abdul Majid Barakat, said that there are serious efforts to bring together all those involved in sports affairs in the liberated areas and the host countries.
Barakat pointed out that the Coalition aims to make the sports file a Syrian national file away from quotas. He said: “Success in this file will turn it into a pressure file on the Assad regime as the battle is not only political and armed one, but a battle having multiple fields. The sports field is no less important than other fields.”
Barakat said that the Committee is working to launch a football league in the liberated areas with the participation of all clubs, adding that work is underway to find ways of cooperation with Turkey and some friendly countries to support this league and secure recognition for it.
He pointed out that the Syrian Olympic Committee launched an official website to publish the news related to the work of the Committee and cover the sports activities in the liberated areas and abroad. (Source: Syrian National Coalition’s Media Department)
