Local activists have reported that Assad regime forces targeted the town of Nawa in the Daraa countryside with artillery shells. This response came in reaction to ongoing demonstrations that have unfolded in the town over the past several days, with protestors calling for the ousting of the Assad regime and the release of detainees.
According to local media, regime forces attempted to quell the demonstrations forcefully, resorting to opening fire on protestors. This led to demonstrators setting tires ablaze and obstructing roads, subsequently culminating in clashes between regime forces and unidentified individuals.
Local activists have issued a warning, expressing concerns about the potential for the Assad regime to commit yet another atrocity in the town. The regime has deployed military reinforcements, including military vehicles ferrying soldiers from Damascus to the area.
Additionally, the towns of al-Hara and Deir al-Adas in the northern Daraa countryside, along with al-Yaduda town in the western countryside, and the village of al-Sura al-Saghira in the Suwayda countryside, have also witnessed anti-regime demonstrations demanding the regime’s overthrow and the release of detainees.
Southern Syria remains a hotbed of substantial anti-regime demonstrations, coinciding with the continuation of a three-day-long general strike.
