Protesters from surrounding villages and regions in Suwayda persist in gathering at Al-Sir (Karama) Square, located at the city’s heart, on the third day of the ongoing general strike. Within the city of Suwayda, the resonating chants of “the people want the fall of the regime” remain a constant presence.
The demonstrators hoisted banners conveying popular demands, some inscribed with messages such as, “Implement UN Resolution 2254 promptly,” “Civil disobedience until tyranny collapses,” and “Russia, Iran, and the US, leave our land.” Female participants from the town of Maleh in the Suwayda countryside passionately proclaimed, “We are not starving; our demands are political.”
Local activists emphasized that the general strike has extended for three consecutive days across numerous towns and villages within Suwayda province. This includes areas like Kafr al-Lahf in the western Suwayda countryside, where government facilities and roadways were shuttered. In the northeast of Suwayda, the village of Al-Jeneina also experienced the main routes’ closure, along with the village of Najran in the western countryside.
