The Syrian Civil Defense has issued a stark warning concerning the intensifying attacks carried out by Assad regime forces, supported by Russia and their loyal militias, in the Idlib and Aleppo regions. These relentless offensives are not only endangering the lives of civilians in Syrian communities but also obstructing their ability to settle, forcing new waves of displacement, impeding agricultural activities, and jeopardizing the upcoming start of the new school year.
The Civil Defense has reported that the ongoing escalation by regime forces and their allies is prompting civilians to flee multiple areas in the southern Idlib countryside, desperately seeking refuge from the relentless bombings.
During the first four days of September alone, the rescue group recorded over 65 attacks, resulting in the tragic loss of 9 civilians and the injury of 27 others, some critically. A palpable sense of terror and fear now permeates the civilian population as the bombardments persist.
The Civil Defense further revealed that its teams have responded to a staggering 491 attacks initiated by regime forces, Russia, and their affiliated militias since the beginning of the year 2023 until Sunday, August 27. These attacks have claimed the lives of 55 individuals, including 9 children and 5 women, while 225 people have been injured, including 78 children and 32 women.
Highlighting the gravity of the situation, the Civil Defense emphasized that the continued escalation poses a severe threat to the lives of more than 4 million civilians residing in northwestern Syria. These areas have become their last refuge after enduring over 12 years of conflict waged by the regime and Russia, both of which have relentlessly targeted the region’s inhabitants and their way of life.
