On Friday, residents of Daraa province, along with individuals from the town of Shahba and its surrounding villages, gathered in Al-Karamah Square in the center of Suwayda city to partake in anti-regime demonstrations, advocating for political change and the removal of the Assad regime.
The demonstrators displayed banners conveying their message. Among the slogans were statements such as: “We want freedom,” “We are against you, Bashar,” “We will achieve freedom,” and “Long live Syria, down with Bashar al-Assad.” These messages reflected their desire for freedom and their strong opposition to the regime, which they believe has sold the country and its resources to its backers.
In a symbolic act, the protestors placed a large photograph of Sultan Pasha al-Atrash, the national symbol and leader of the Great Syrian Revolution, on a building overlooking Karama Square. Simultaneously, they tore down photographs of the regime’s leader, Bashar al-Assad, and his father, Hafez, from official institutions within the city.
Notably, Friday’s demonstrations witnessed broad participation from various segments of society, including a delegation from the local tribes. To add to the symbolism, purebred Arabian horses were also present in the heart of Karama Square in downtown Suwayda.
