The Assad regime and Russian air forces have stepped up bombardment on rebel-held towns and villages in eastern Ghouta and Wadi Barada valley in Rural Damascus, targeting mainly residential buildings and vital civilian infrastructure. The escalating attacks left at least 13 civilians killed and dozens more injured on Thursday.
Activists in the town of Douma in eastern Ghouta said that Russian jets launched three airstrikes on the town on Thursday, killing 5 people, including 2 children, and wounding many others. One of the airstrikes hit an elementary school, while another school in the town was hit by heavy artillery, causing material damage.
Activists in Wadi Barada valley in northwestern Rural Damascus said that Assad’s air force pounded the villages of Bseiam and Deir Maqrin with over 20 airstrikes and barrel bombs. The bombardment caused massive damage to civilian houses and vital civilian infrastructure.
Russian jets and Assad regime helicopters earlier on Thursday hit the towns of Harasta, Arbin, Zamalka and Saqba in Rural Damascus, causing many casualties among civilians.
