In yet a new deadly attack by the Russian occupation forces, at least 16 civilians, including five children and women, were killed and 20 others wounded in a Russian airstrike that hit a temporary shelter holding IDP near the town of Ma’ret Masrin in rural Idlib at dawn on Thursday.
A new report indicated how the Russian occupation does not honor any of the international understandings and agreements. The Emergency Response Coordinators Team in Syria said that it has recorded the deaths of about 2,167 civilians, including about 604 children, in northwestern Syria since the Sochi agreement was reached in 2018.
The Team pointed out that more than one million people have been displaced from their homes towards relatively safer areas near the Syrian-Turkish border since early November 2019.
The report indicated that the Russian occupation and Assad regime air forces targeted about 671 vital civilian centers, including hospitals, bakeries, educational facilities, and IDP camps. The attacks also killed more than 34 humanitarian workers.
The Team called on the international community to assume its responsibilities with regards to the protection of the civilian population in northwestern Syria, calling on humanitarian organizations to take swift action and step up humanitarian relief operations in the region.
