Friends of Humanity International, an organization headquartered in Vienna, said in a report that 166 people died due to hunger and lack of food and medical care in the Yarmouk refugee camp in southern Damascus. Since July 2013, the camp has been subjected to crippling siege by regime forces who block access of life-saving necessities to the rebel-held parts of the camp.
The report adds that 2,651 Palestinian refugees died since the beginning of the revolution in Syria either by regime snipers, indiscriminate shelling, under torture in Assad’s prisons, or because of hunger. The report also says regime forces have detained 818 Palestinians since March 2011, of whom 293 died in detention.
The report also said that pro-Assad forces have been taking inhumane measures against residents of the camp, such as cutting off water supplies and electricity, thus exacerbating their suffering of the besieged civilians. As a result, resident of the camp have to get water from distribution points provided by relief agencies though it is safe to drink, which caused the outbreak of epidemics among the trapped civilians.
