Activists said that at least 18 civilians were killed and many more injured in brutal shelling by regime forces on the town of Otaya in eastern Ghouta on Thursday. Nearly 20 rockets pounded residential buildings in the rebel-held town, and airstrikes were launched that also left massive material damage.
A number of civilians were injured in airstrikes by regime forces on the district of Douma in eastern Ghouta on Thursday. Over 40 barrel bombs hit the district of Daraya west of Damascus. Regime forces also shelled the town of Khan Alsheeh southwest of Damascus with rockets, with no injuries reported.
Vice-president of the Syrian Coalition Muwaffaq Nyrabiya on Thursday said that there is now no appropriate climate for a political process to be successful as the Assad regime and its allies carry on with the slaughter of innocent civilians in Syria.
Nyrabiya pointed out that the continued silence over such attacks carried out by the Assad regime and its allies has further complicated the conflict and allowed ISIS to grow and fester in Syria and the region. Main state actors, meanwhile, continue to shirk their responsibilities towards the tragedy unfolding in Syria, completely unmindful of the disastrous consequences of the continued violations of the cessation of hostilities agreement by the regime and its allies, Nyrabiya added.
