The FSA and rebel fighters on Wednesday said they repelled an attack by militants of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and other Iranian-backed foreign militias on the town of Khan Touman, southern Aleppo, killing 14 militants and wounding many more. Five more IRGC militants were also killed in clashes with FSA and rebel fighters in the neighborhood of Alrashideen in western Aleppo.
Meanwhile, at least 8 civilians were killed and dozens more wounded in airstrikes by the Assad regime and Russian forces on rural Aleppo and rural Idlib on Wednesday.
Dozens of airstrikes by regime and Russian warplanes hit the towns of Anadan, Huraytan Kafr Hamra and Hayan in northern rural Aleppo. The neighborhoods of Karm Altarrab, Almuyassar and Alharableh and the Castello road were also hit with artillery and airstrikes.
Around a dozen towns and villages in rural Idlib were hit by airstrikes and barrel bombs on Wednesday, with no reports as yet of civilian casualties.
Head of the opposition’s negotiation delegation to Geneva Asaad Alzoabi last week said that Iranian-backed and Hezbollah militias are being sent to Syria in increasing numbers, adding that more Afghan elements have recently begun to arrive in Iran to receive military training to fight in Syria in return for money and promises of Iranian citizenship.
