Local activists said they had documented the deaths of 530 civilians in the governorate of Deir Ezzor in eastern Syria in October, mostly women and children.
An activist working for the Deir Ezzor 24 media campaign told Smart News Network that 442 civilians were killed in aerial bombardment by Assad regime and Russian air forces, while six more others were killed in airstrikes by the international coalition forces. The activist added that 55 people were executed by ISIS under various charges, while 12 civilians were killed by the militias of the so-called Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
Over 400,000 civilians have been displaced as a result of fighting between regime forces and ISIS west of the Euphrates River, and between ISIS the SDF militia east of the river. Hundreds of civilians were killed in Russian and Assad regime airstrikes which targeted civilian homes and crossing points on the Euphrates River. Civil bodies and activists called for the opening of safe corridors for civilians.
The Syrian Coalition last week reiterated its calls on the UN Security Council and UN Special Envoy to Syria Staffan de Mistura to take the necessary measures to protect Syrian civilians; stop these crimes; and bring perpetrators to justice. It also called for the unification of efforts to combat terrorism, dry up its sources, and hold to account those who planned for the spread of terrorism and helped it thrive.
