Activists in Idlib province on Thursday launched an online campaign under the title “Syrians against extremism” to raise awareness of the consequences of Haiy’at Tahrir Alsham’s (HTS) increasing of its hold and influence in the province.
“The campaign mainly aims to raise awareness of Al-Qaeda’s threat in the province and its negative impact on the Syrian society as well as to keep Syrians away from the extremist ideology and discourse that was brought from outside the Syrian border,” said Nassib Abdulaziz, director of the campaign.
Abdulaziz pointed out that the campaign had already began in parts of northern Syria as well as on social media sites. He said that the campaign includes various activities that will be carried out in secret, such as scrawling anti-Qaeda graffiti and the distribution of brochures. Most of these activities will be carried out at night for fear of retaliation by HTS elements.
Abdulaziz went on to say that Al-Qaeda and its franchises are alien to the moderate Syrian society. (Source: Syrian Coalition’s Media Department + Agencies)
