The Assistance Coordination Unit (ACU) launched the “Solidarity” program to provide aid to the besieged areas and areas that are hard to access, in cooperation with the Syrian Interim Government. The program includes carrying out relief campaigns and development projects aimed at providing services to several key sectors.
The program also aims to help needy households secure part of their various needs through the resources available in their areas in light of a severe shortage in basic needs, imposed by regime forces on many rebel-held areas.
About $7.6 million USD were budgeted to finance the program, which was designed after studying the needs of the besieged areas and the ability to deliver aid in cooperation with local partners. The program covers four vital sectors: food security, health, infrastructure and education.
Around $5.5 million USD were allocated to the besieged areas, while the total cost of the program was budgeted as follows: $3.49 million USD for food security, $2.5 million USD for the health sector, $0.42 million USD for the infrastructure sector, and $1.23 million USD for the education sector.
