Activists reported that regime forces and their allied militias have pressed on with the onslaught they launched in northwestern Syria with Russian aerial support. They pointed out that the mass exodus of civilians continue with the displaced people suffering dire humanitarian conditions amid sub-zero temperatures in Idlib and rural Aleppo.
The Emergency Response Coordinators Team in northwestern Syria said that more than 36,000 people were displaced in northwestern Syria in just two days to escape the intensifying military operations being launched by the Assad regime and its Russian ally.
The Team pointed out that the number of IDP camps in northwestern Syria increased to 1,259 in the past two months, adding that those camps are home to more than one million people.
The Team called upon all regional and international relief organizations to urgently provide aid to the civilian population in northwestern Syria. It also urged the international community to assume its responsibilities with regards to civilians in the region.
The Assad regime and its Russian and Iranian allies have further intensified ground attacks and bombardment on Idlib province and rural Aleppo since December 20, 2019, killing and injuring hundreds of civilians and displacing hundreds of thousands more.
