Activists said Russian fighter jets carried out at least 28 airstrikes on the town of Saraqib in rural Idlib on Friday, with cluster bombs used in some of those raids.
Mutee’ Jalal, media official at the Civil Defense Corps in Idlib province, said that the Russian airstrikes were launched in response to the progress made by rebel and FSA fighters in southern Aleppo. At least one civilian was killed and ten others injured in the airstrikes, Jalal said.
Jalal told Smart News Network that one of the airstrikes targeted rescue workers trying to extinguish a fire caused by bombing on the industrial area in the outskirts of Saraqib.
On Wednesday, Saraqib was hit with barrel bombs containing toxic chlorine gas. Medical sources said that nearly 33 civilians, including women and children, suffered from asphyxiation following the attack which came in revenge for the downing of a Russian helicopter near the town and the death of its five crewmembers.
At least 16 civilians, including 7 children and one woman, were killed in Russian airstrikes on the neighborhoods of Almarja and Tareeq Albab in eastern Aleppo on Friday. Four more civilians from one family were killed in barrel bomb attacks by regime forces on the neighborhood of Alsaliheen on Friday. (Source: Syrian Coalition)
