The militia of the Democratic Union Party (PYD) has recently completed the construction of trenches and embankments in areas surrounding the town of Manbij in northern Syria, Anadolu news agency revealed on Wednesday. It said that the PYD militia has recently begun receiving training from the PKK terrorist group to “defend” the town.
The agency published satellite imagery showing locations of the trenches. It pointed out that the PYD militia began building trenches around the town a few days following its capture. The construction was carried out by PYD elements who fled Afrin before it was fully liberated by the Free Syrian Army with the support of the Turkish army in an operation that was aimed at the restoration of security and stability in the border region.
Anadolu said that the PYD militia set up embankments at various depths in front of trenches to make up a series of lines stretching nearly 30 kilometers.
The agency said that the leadership of the PKK terrorist group in Qandil Mountains of Iraq has recently held four meetings with PYD elements to “organize the defense of Manbij.”
The PYD terrorist group is training and reorganizing its militants who are using the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) label and have been receives support from the United States. According to the roadmap previously agreed by Washington and Ankara, the PYD militia has to withdraw from the town and its surrounding villages within 90 days.
