President of the Association of Syrian Independent Kurds Abdul Aziz Tammo said that the Democratic Union Party (PYD) has been deceiving the Kurdish youth by claiming that it serves the interests of the Syrian Kurdish population.
The Association held its founding congress in the Turkish city of Şanlıurfa on Sunday. Over 100 members took part in the congress in addition to a number of Arab and Yazidi intellectuals.
Tammo pointed out that Iran, Russia, and the Assad regime use the PYD as a card in the Syrian conflict. He added that the Association seeks to serve as the voice of Syrian Kurds in international and national forums and events.
Tammo stressed the need to resolve the Kurdish issue within the framework of democracy and pluralism. He reaffirmed opposition to all terrorist organizations such as ISIS, the PYD, and Al-Qaeda, adding that the Association supports all organizations defending the rights of Syrian Kurds.
The Assad regime has supplied the PYD militias with weapons and empowered them in order to prevent Syrian Kurds from joining the revolution. These militias were involved in the killing of civilians and ethnic groups opposed to the regime. The PYD, therefore, does not represent the Syrian Kurds, Tammo stressed.
Tammo pointed out that both the Assad regime and the PYD are enemies of the Syrian people. He asked: “Why are our youth getting killed in Manbij and Raqqa?” He described the situation as a game being played by Russia and the Assad regime in northeastern Syria.
The Association describes itself as “a voluntary independent national Kurdish conglomeration active in the political, social and developmental tracks. It is composed of Kurdish independent figures from all segments of society who endorse the Syrian revolution; its goals and principles. The Association aims to make the voice of Syria’s independent Kurds heard in various local, regional and international forums and events.” (Source: Anadolu Agency)
