A total of 91 civilians were killed in the northeast province of Raqqa in the month of November, activist of ‘Raqqa is being Slaughtered Silently’ media campaign said on Sunday.
According to figures compiled by the media campaign, 87 civilians were killed in explosions of landmines and improvised explosive devices (IEDs) that were left by the ISIS extremist group. The victims also included a civilian who was killed by the Assad regime forces, two civilians who were killed by unidentified gunmen, and one civilian who was killed by border guards.
Activist Salal Al-Muftah told Smart News Network that the victims included women and children, noting that the majority of deaths took place in the Al-Hani, Mansour, and Saif al-Dawla streets.
On Saturday, activists said that 11 civilians were killed in two days in explosions of landmines and IEDs as well as booby traps that were left by ISIS in their homes in Raqqa before withdrawing from the city.
Activists also said that 60 civilians were killed in similar incidents in Raqqa city between 1-26 November. The campaign relies on a group of correspondents, activists and local sources to document civilian deaths and violations in the province.
The media campaign called for speeding up the demining operations before more innocent civilians are killed. The campaign also called for an international inquiry into the militias of the so-called Syrian Democratic Forces’ (SDF) delaying of the demining operations.
