Mohiuddin Binanah, Minister of Education in the Syrian interim government, said that five million Syrian children are in need for education during a meeting with a delegation from the Rhett Organization – an international organization that provides humanitarian aid and education for the displaced people in emergency situations – headed by director of the organization Zainab Gündüz. Binanah briefed the visiting delegation on the disastrous deterioration of the educational process for Syrian children caused by the Assad regime’s indiscriminate shelling on schools and universities. He also pointed out that setting up alternate schools needs the support of major international organizations and that this support cannot be financed by a single country or an organization. The meeting discussed the cooperation between the Ministry of Education and Rhett to step up support of pre-university education for Syrian students inside and outside Syria. And the development of specific mechanisms for the coordination of joint work between the two sides. Gündüz pointed out that the organization will soon begin training of 150 teachers of English language, to be followed by training courses for teachers of other subjects.” (Source: Syrian Coalition)
