Activists in the district of Dariya near Damascus protested against what they described as the “blood elections” which the Assad regime intends to hold in early June. Protesters held placards denouncing the farcical elections through which Assad is trying to reproduce his regime. Activists also stressed that the Syrian people rebelled against Assad to depose him and not to re-elect him. Dariya is one of the first cities to rise up against Assad, so the Assad regime resorted to the use of all means and weapons to crush the rebellion in the city, ranging from light weapons and even then the heavy use of chemical weapons and throwing and has laid a crippling siege on it.
