Displaced people who live in camps in the areas under the control of the militia of the Democratic Union Party (PYD) suffer inhumane living conditions due to the lack of basic services, inadequate food and medical supplies, and the repressive practices by the PYD militias.
Suffering of people fleeing the intensified fighting in eastern Syria has further worsened as militia of the so-called Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), the bulk of which is formed of the PYD militia, are preventing thousands of people who were displaced from Deir Ezzor from entering camps or the safe areas under the militias’ control. The SDF militia has also launched a large-scale arrest campaigns against the young people in the areas under their control to forcibly recruit them into its ranks.
Smart News Network reported that the SDF militia detained about 75 young men in the town of Tabqa to deploy them in the battles against the ISIS extremist group.
The Network also reported that residents of the Abu Qubai IDPs camp west of the Raqqa city were complaining about dire living conditions and the spread of diseases.
Tens of thousands of people who were internally displaced in Raqqa are currently living in camps scattered across the province. Local activists refer to these camps as ‘camps of death’ because of the dire humanitarian conditions in these camps.
Activists in the Tweihina IDPs camp near the town of Tabqa said that the SDF militia prevented people who were displaced from Deir Ezzpr from entering the camp under the pretext that it was overcrowded. (Source: Syrian Coalitions’ Media Department)
