The Assad regime forces resumed artillery and rocket shelling on areas in Dara’a province, the birthplace of the Syrian revolution. The shelling, which coincided with the ninth anniversary of the Syrian revolution, killed eight people, including three children, and injured many others.
Local activists said that the violent shelling targeted the town of Jelin west of Dara’a on Wednesday.
The activists published the names of the five people who were killed. They are Ali Mohamed, Saleh Alwais, Fadi Al-Jezawi, Nizar Al-Khaled, and Tariq Imran. They said that they could not identify the children as of Wednesday.
The shelling followed violent clashes between former opposition fighters and regime forces which tried to set up a checkpoint on the outskirts of the town.
Dara’a province has seen an uptick of assassinations targeting former fighters of the Free Syrian Army and former members of local councils, with local activists accusing the regime of standing behind these attacks. (Source: SOC’s Media Department)
