Syrian activists called for a new wave of anti-regime demonstrations to be held on Friday under the title “there is no alternative to overthrowing the regime.” The mass demonstrations will emphasize the demands of the Syrian revolution and that it will continue until the Syrian people regain freedom and dignity for which they have risen up since March 2011.
Local news networks said that the demonstrations would include new locations in northern Syria as well as Syrian refugees’ camps in neighboring countries to denounce any attempts by Russia to rehabilitate the Assad regime and impose its will on the Syrian people.
Organizers of the demonstrations said that they would send messages to the international community and the United Nations urging them to assume their responsibilities towards some three million civilians in Idlib and to stand against any potential regime offensive in the region.
Last Friday, mass demonstrators swept across Idlib province where demonstrators waved the flag of the Syrian revolution and held signs that read “resistance is our choice.” They also chanted slogans denouncing the Assad regime and its allies.
The Syrian Coalition said that the anti-regime demonstrations reflected the Syrian people’s absolute commitment to their demands and that they were ready to confront the regime should it make any reckless move in Idlib.
“Through these demonstrations, the Syrian people sent out clear, strong messages denoting their high morale and indomitable will to confront the Assad regime in Idlib and that any reckless move would be very costly to the Assad regime and its allies,” the Coalition said.
The “Youth for Change” activists group on Wednesday held a sit-in protest in the town of Urem al-Kubra in rural Aleppo to assert that the Syrian revolution will continue.
