A Free Syrian Army unit on Friday seized control of al-Tanf border crossing between Syria and Iraq from ISIS.
The Battalions of Martyr Ahmed al Abdo of the FSA-affiliated New Syrian Army said it had taken the crossing after fierce fighting with ISIS militants. Many ISIS fighters were reportedly killed during the clashes.
A previous FSA attack on the border crossing failed because of landmines planted by ISIS around the area.
The Tanf border crossing had been under the control of ISIS since May 2015 after regime forces withdrew of the area, thus losing its last border crossing with Iraq. (Source: Syrian Coalition)
