More than two million pilgrims flocked to Mount Arafat today to perform the greatest pillar of the Hajj in Mecca, after ascending from Mount Arafat after sunset to Muzdalifah, where they perform the Maghrib and Isha prayers. After spending most the night in Muzdalifah, pilgrims return to Mina on the morning of the tenth day to collect pebbles for Ramy al-Jamarat, the symbolic stoning of the devil. Eid al-Adha will fall on Saturday, a day in which Muslims who are not on pilgrimage celebrate by slaughtering animals to mark Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son Ismail upon the command of God. The Syrian Coalition’s Hajj Committee has taken on organizing the sending of Syrian pilgrims to perform hajj. (Source: Syrian Coalition + Al Jazeera)
