Mohammed Yasin Najjar, interim Minister of Communications, Transport and Industry, said that “the Ministry is conducting a study to restore cellular and internet communications to the liberated areas. There are projects ready to be implemented once funding is secured. The Ministry is also working on the establishment of directorates in the liberated areas, while much work has been done in northern Aleppo due to its proximity to Turkey and the availability of trained manpower. We also managed to restore telephone communications to 70% of rural Aleppo. We are also repairing telephone cables in the Qah sub-district in Idlib. The Ministry has entered into Quneitra to establish a directorate there and find out about services there after the regime’s bombing of the central exchange in Al Qusaybah.” Moreover, Najjar said that the “Ministry has set up the Directorate of Telecommunications in Deir Ezzor and is assessing the situation of communications in Raqa province. In Aleppo we have repaired the central exchange in Ehtmeilat, which provides service to 2,000 subscribers after two-year interruption. There are more than 20 experienced workers and technicians who are working in the province to restore communication services.” (Source: Syrian Coalition)
