The interim Ministry of Education said that Inonu University in Turkey announced yesterday that it would admit all Syrian students who applied this year. It has already admitted ninety Syrian students, and extended the deadline for registration to Eid al-Adha. The head of the university promised the representatives of the Syrian interim government that the university would admit Syrian graduate students in the available specialties according to the capacity of the colleges at the university. Moreover, the University of Inonu has hired a number of Syrian academics to teach Arabic language and Sharia, and also said its doors are open for Syrian academics who wants to conduct joint scientific research with their Turkish counterparts. Also, the University of Adıyaman said it would admit Syrian students in the vacant seats that are not occupied by the students who were already admitted. Niyazi Kahveci, the head of the university, said that “we admitted 60 Syrian students, only five of which applied, and we extended the deadline for registration until the advent of Eid al-Adha,” during a meeting with the interim Minister of Education Muhyiddin Binanah. Syrian students who were admitted in the Turkish universities has to study Turkish language for one year. Kahveci also said that they would admit Syrian graduate students provided that they submit the required certified papers. Kahveci also discussed with the interim Minister of Education the possibility of hiring Syrian academics to teach the Arabic language and Sharia law. The University of Necmettin Erbakan in the city of Konya has also extended the deadline of registration for Syrian students to October 1st and also said it would admit Syrian graduate students who want to study master’s and doctoral degrees.
