Iranian terrorist groups have returned to southern Syria under cover by the Assad regime, AKI news agency said, with reports about the arrival of huge Assad regime military reinforcements on the outskirts of liberated areas in the provinces of Dara’a and Quneitra.
The agency said on Monday that the Iranian militias returned to southern Syria in the uniform of the Assad regime’s troops and in its military vehicles. Iranian military militias on Saturday began withdrawing from southern Syria towards northern Dara’a province near the capital, Damascus, AKI said. However, the militias began returning to Syria’s south under the umbrella of the regime.
The Syrian Coalition said that Iran defies the international community and is trying to increase the number of its terrorist militias in Syria. It said that the Assad regime forces are now a mere front for the Iranian occupation, adding that any possible military escalation in southern Syria will be “answering to orders from Tehran.”
Local Free Syrian Army commanders said that the Iranian militias are changing positions and moving to barracks belonging to Assad forces with the aim of returning to the south in Assad regime’s military vehicles and dressed in its uniform.
President of the Syrian Coalition Abdurrahman Mustafa earlier blamed the Assad regime for turning Syria into an arena for score-settling between regional powers and an epicenter for the Iranian-led cross-border terrorism. He pointed out that the Assad regime has long opened Syria’s doors wide for Iranian terrorist militias to enter Syrian territory and allowed Tehran to use Syria as a springboard for terrorist activities as well as a card to serve its expansionist ambitions and further its nuclear project.
President Mustafa underscored that the Assad regime must be dealt with in the same firmness as Iran as both of them threaten international peace and security, stressing the need for confronting their terrorist activities in the region. (Source: Syrian Coalition’s Media Department)
