The Syrian Kurdish National Council strongly condemns the Democratic Union Party’s (PYD) terrorist provocative acts against their fellow Kurds and their political movement in Syria, blaming the PYD-affiliated militia for any undesirable consequences that may result from its violations and abuses.
The council calls on the PYD to reconsider its policies in line with the Dohuk agreement signed by the Kurdish National Council and the Democratic Society Movement under the auspices of Mr. Massoud Barzani. The agreement is aimed at reaching a unified Kurdish position on the political and military levels.
The Syrian Kurdish National Council points out that the PYD continues with its repressive practices to impose its authority and dictatorship on Kurds, human rights and civil society organizations by force of arms. It also persists in unilaterally issuing illegitimate laws and decrees that are contrary to human rights and to the Kurdish values.
The Kurdish National Council stated that the PYD has stepped up raid and arrest campaigns, forced recruitment, forced displacement and the kidnapping of minors, stressing that such practices will not thwart its struggle for its Kurdish national project in Syria.
The PYD has also cracked down on free media and closed down public and private educational institutions. It also continues to bully other Kurdish political blocs, an incident of which when PYD militiamen opened fire in front of Yekiti Party member Oosman Sabri’s office on Tuesday. This act, aimed at intimidation and delivering a clear message to the Kurdish National Council, coincides with the council’s convening of its third conference which came up with important decisions to activate the council’s’ role in serving the Kurdish issue in Syria.
