The Kurdish National Council condemns the conscription law issued by the so-called “Legislative Council of the Canton of Al Jazeera,” stressing in a statement that the law will create a state of anxiety and discontent among the youth and cause more displacement of the local population. The statement stresses “it is the duty of everyone to defend the land and dignity, but this must not come under duress and the kidnapping of minors to forcibly recruit them.” The Kurdish National Council calls on the democratic society movements to shoulder their responsibilities to counter these laws and to allow the Kurdish political movements to express their opinion. The predominantly Kurdish town of Amoda in northeastern Syria saw demonstrations against recruitment of minors. (Source: Syrian Coalition)
