The Emergency Response Coordinators Team in Syria condemned the recent escalation of attacks by the Assad regime and Russian forces in northwestern Syria, pointing that it has recorded no fewer than 289 breaches of the ceasefire agreement in the region since the beginning of this year.
The Team said that Russian jets bombed many targets in rural Idlib in the past few days, adding that it has also recorded hundreds of violations by the Assad regime forces and allied militias since the ceasefire agreement took effect on March 5, 2020.
The Team described the resumed airstrikes as a serious indicator of new escalation of military operations as the Russian jets targeted densely populated areas, causing panic among civilians.
The Team called on all parties concerned with Syria to ensure an end to these violations and the return of civilians to their homes. It warned that the resumption of military operations in the region will further exacerbate the suffering of civilians, stressing that the region is unable to absorb any new wave of mass displacement in view of the massive damage that occurred to the IDP camps in the past month.
