The Monitoring and Documentation Team of the Action Group for Palestinian of Syria said that 206 Palestinians from the Yarmouk camp in Damascus are still forcibly disappeared by the Assad regime.
The group issued repeated appeals demanding the disclosure of the fate of the forcibly disappeared Palestinians, but none of its appeals received any or response from the regime.
The London-based monitoring group said that it had compiled a list of the names of 556 Palestinian refugees who died under torture in the prisons of the Assad regime. Dozens of Palestinians were killed during the fierce military campaign by the Assad regime and his Russian ally against Yarmouk camp.
The Group said that the real number of victims of torture could be much higher as the Assad regime does not admit it had people in its custody. Families of the detainees and missing persons prefer to remain silent about the death of their loves ones for fear of reprisal by the Assad regime.
The Group earlier said that the Assad regime detained 1,680 Palestinian refugees, including 106 women, noting that the regime refuses to disclose their fate or whereabouts.
On June 26, the group along with some 54 rights groups sent a letter on victims of torture in the prisons of the Assad regime. The group called on the international community to launch investigation into the issue of detainees, protect the rights of Palestinian refugees, and hold those responsible for torture in Assad’s prisons to account.
