Ayman Fahmi, head of the General Commission for Palestine Refugees in the Syrian interim government, said that “the Palestinians in Syria have been sharing the Syrians their suffering since the early days of the revolution. The Palestinian Authority and the international organizations have done little to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinians in Syria.” The General Authority for Palestinian refugees was set up by the Syrian interim government in April 14, 2014 to cope with the deteriorating humanitarian situation suffered by Palestinians in refugee camps in Syria and abroad. “The Palestinians in Syria have been playing an active role in the popular uprising since the beginning, so it was necessary to create this Commission whose task is meeting the needs of Palestinian-Syrians. The move serves as a message that the Syrian people are committed to the welfare of those who are sharing us blood, pain and destiny. The Commission’s Office of Relief and Services has been delivering humanitarian aid to the Palestinians in the Yarmouk refugee camp, Dara’a camp and in Aleppo, as well as to Palestinian-Syrians in refugee camps in Turkey, Jordan, and Lebanon.” Fahmi calls for increasing support for the General Commission of Palestinian Refugees in its efforts to alleviate the decades-long pain and suffering of the Palestinian people.” (Source: Syrian Coalition)
