Syrian activists on Tuesday organized a sit-in in the town of Azaz in northern rural Aleppo to condemn the massacre which was committed by the Russian air force in the town of Atareb on Monday.
A similar protest was held in the town of Al-Bab in northeastern rural Aleppo to condemn the massacre of Atareb as well as the Assad regime and Russia’s continued bombing of civilians and to condemn the “the silence of the guarantors of the ceasefire agreement in Syria.”
Activists held sings that read “Atareb massacre is a dark stain on humanity” and ones that demonstrated solidarity with the town.
The civil defense corps in Atareb on Tuesday announced that death toll from the Russian airstrikes on the town rose to 62 people while over 100 more were injured. It said that the death toll is likely to rise as rescue teams continue search and rescue operations amongst the rubble of bombed buildings.
The Syrian Coalition strongly condemned the “brutal crime which was committed by aircraft of the Russian occupation forces in the town of Atareb.” It held Russia “directly and fully responsible for the war crimes it has committed in Syria since the beginning of its direct military intervention in Syria.”
International and local bodies expressed outrage over the massacre as they called on the international community to stop the crimes being committed by Russia and the Assad regime in Syria.
