Local media outlets reported that a young man died under torture in the custody of the militia of the Democratic Union Party (PYD) in the town of Manbij in rural Aleppo as violations by the militant group against civilians have increased in recent months.
The PYD militia detained the young man, Yousef Ali Suleiman, 20 years old, a week ago while he was on his way back to Manbij following a visit to the nearby village of Qashlat Youssef with his friend Shadi Haj Abdul. The PYD militia on Thursday handed over Suleiman’s body to his family with clear torture sings of torture on his body, local activists said.
The PYD militia claimed that the young man had died of a heart attack, exactly the same narrative that the Assad regime has already used about the deaths of hundreds of thousands of victims who died under torture in its prisons. The fate and whereabouts of his friend Shadi remain unknown.
A few days ago, the ‘Deir Ezzor 24’ news network published a video showing PYD militiamen executing a whole family in eastern rural Deir Ezzor.
The network pointed out that the incident took place near the town of Al-Bagouz, ISIS’s last foothold in Syria. It said that the victims, a mother and her children, have not been identified yet.
The PYD militias’ repeated violations against civilians have caused a wave of protests in many of the villages under the militia’s control. Rights groups called for the launch of investigations into these violations and for holding those responsible accountable. (Source: Syrian Coalition’s Media Department)
