Activists in Al-Hasaka province on Thursday reported mass arrests carried out by the PYD militants against young men in the province. The campaign, which began four days ago, is aimed to recruit young men aged 18-30 into the PYD militias against their will.
Dozens of arrests were reported in the towns of Qamishli, Derik and Rmeilan.
Member of the Syrian Coalition’s political committee Fuad Aliko on Wednesday said that the PYD could not claim to be a representative of the Syrian Kurds, especially after the attacks its militias have recently launched against rebel-held areas under Russian aerial cover.
Aliko described the PYD as a proxy organization whose actions do not serve the Kurds’ national interests but serve those of the Assad regime and Russia in Syria and the region. (Source: Syrian Coalition)
